Softball: Yorkville, Kaneland in key NI-Big 12 game
Two straight setbacks have dropped Yorkville to 5-2 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East Conference race and allowed Kaneland (13-3) to move into first place at 5-1. DeKalb checks in at 4-2. The Foxes play host to the Knights Thursday afternoon and can grab a share of the league lead.

MaShayla Kirksy of Walther Lutheran was the brightest star but balance and depth helped host Rosary run away with the team title Wednesday at the Suburban Christian Conference girls track meet. The Royals rolled up 146.5 points to win comfortably over the Broncos, who finished with 118.

Chaz Taft, the boys varsity basketball coach for seven years at South Elgin, will succeed Steve Weemer at Waubonsie Valley. He was introduced to players in the program Tuesday morning after telling his Storm players Monday he would be leaving the program.

Football: Aurora Christian’s Gilkey not off radar anymore
Garrett Gilkey, an Aurora Christian High School graduate from Sandwich, was the 227th player selected in this year’s NFL draft when he was taken by the Cleveland Browns Saturday with the 21st pick of the seventh and final round. “I think that there has been a knock on me for a long time because of my competition level,” said Gilkey, an NCAA Division II All-American lineman from Chadron State College in Nebraska.
Mom led mission to save soccer for D204 kids
When Aurora resident Christie Kruchten learned that Indian Prairie School District 04 was going to cut the middle school level soccer program last spring, she quickly contacted school officials. Kruchten set up a facebook page, mobilized parents and began looking for a solution.
