DEKALB — Oswego’s Sean Totsch did it again, scoring the game-winning goal Thursday as the Northern Illinois men’s soccer team blanked Western Illinois 3-0 in an opening-round game of the NCAA Tournament.

Totsch, a sophomore center midfielder, got a touch inside the six-yard box from sophomore Karim Darbaki and slipped the ball into the net at 19:46. Totsch, who hadn’t scored a goal in college until last weekend, now has three in the team’s last four matches.

Northern tied the school record (set in 2006) for wins, climbing to 15-5-0 and travels to Nebraska for a second-round tournament game Sunday at 1 p.m. against No. 2 seed Creighton (18-2).

NIU got its second goal in the 43rd minute from freshman Isaac Kannah and junior Mike Mascitti added a second-half score.
