Area roundup: Waubonsie Valley beats Hinsdale Central; Marmion falls in OT

Boys basketball

Waubonsie Valley 57, Hinsdale Central 42 — Tyler Edmondson’s 17 points and 14 rebounds led the Warriors (11-6) to a win at the Downers Grove North Winter Classic. Jared Brownridge added 12 points and six rebounds.

Dwight 50, Sandwich 45 — Justin Wegener scored a team-high 16 points for the Indians.

Newark 59, Iroquois West 52 — Kyle Anderson scored 28 points and Jeremy Anderson added 13 points for the Norsemen (16-1).

St. Francis 54, Marmion 48 (OT) — Mark Berdelle scored 16 points, all in the second half for the Cadets. The loss puts the Cadets back at the .500 mark (8-8).

Westminster Christian 53, Somonauk 45 — Colin Stahl led Somonauk with 12 points including three 3-pointers. Jake Krischel recorded 10 points in the losing effort. The Bobcats (4-13, 2-3 Little 10) were outscored 21-10 in the third quarter.

St. Charles North 43, Geneva 32

Girls basketball

Wheaton Warrenville South 48, West Aurora 36 — Royalle Brown had 14 ponts and six rebounds for the Blackhawks. Alexis Nelson totaled nine points, six rebounds and four steals.

Reed-Custer 36, Plano 32 — Sophey Secor corraled 16 rebounds for the Reapers (5-17) in the loss at the Interstate 8 Tournament. Katie Stickney scored nine points for Plano.

Sandwich 35, Lisle 34 — Jessica Miller poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the Indians at the Interstate 8 Tournament.

South Elgin 64, Waubonsie Valley 49 — Tami Morice scored 19 points for the Warriors in the loss.

Canterbury (Ind.) 60, Hinckley-Big Rock 57 — Tess Godhardt scored a team-high 17 points and Katie Hollis chipped in 16 for Hinckley-Big Rock.

Aurora Central 53, Marian 44 — Jackie Cardona and Katilyn Rosa scored 19 points each for the Chargers.

Girls gymnastics

Niles North Invitational — Geneva finished third in the 14-team event with a team score of 101.1.


Hinsdale South Quad — Oswego East went 1-2 on the day. The Wolves beat host Hinsdale South 37-26, but lost to St. Patrick (41-30) and Wheeling (43-30). Colin Griffin went 3-0 for Oswego East, collecting two wins at 140 pounds and another at 145. Brandon Rivera pinned all three of his opponents at 215 pounds. Reuben Reyes won twice at 103 pounds and once at 112.

Boys bowling

Oswego won the Southwest Prairie Conference title with a score of 132. Individually the Panthers claimed three out of the top four spots. Mikey Preston took first overall followed by Adam Johnson. Nate Glatz added a fourth place finish.

Girls bowling

Oswego finished seventh out of 24 teams in the Fred Green Classic with a score of 5,319. Tara Wagner took ninth place individually with a 1,212 series.

Women’s Basketball

Aurora 70, Maranatha Baptist 54 — The Spartans (4-11, 1-7 NAC) were led by Michelle Perry who had 29 points on 12-for-13 shooting.
