College basketball: Aurora University to face St. Thomas in first round

The Aurora University men’s basketball team will travel to St. Paul, Minn., to face the University of St. Thomas in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The game will be played at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The Spartans (22-6) will be making their sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last nine years. AU punched its ticket to the tournament by defeating Lakeland College, 95-71, in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament championship game. The host Tommies, who play in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, will enter Saturday’s game with a 26-1 record.
The Spartans are led by junior forward Scott Laskowski (11.4 points, 5.1 rebounds), senior guard Mike Bumber (11.3 points, 45.9 percent from three-point range), senior guard Esteban Vega (8.8 points, 3.5 assists), freshman forward Kalmon Stokes (8.8 points, 4.3 rebounds) and senior guard/forward Mark Adams (7.0 points, 3.7 rebounds).
As a team, AU is averaging 84.9 points per game, which ranks sixth in NCAA Division III.
