Boys basketball

Newark 62, Athens 45 — Brett Anderson totaled 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead the Norsemen. Jack Clausel chipped in 14 points.

St. Charles East 57, Batavia 28 — Micah Coffey scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Geneva 69, St. Viator 62 — Nate Navigato and Chris Parrilli netted 18 points each for the Vikings.

Ottawa Marquette 78, Somonauk 70 — John Wathen scored 25 points for the Bobcats (11-14). Reece Bode totaled 23 points and 16 rebounds.

Wheaton Academy 66, Kaneland 46 — Matt Limbrunner tallied 16 points for the Knights (13-9).

Indian Creek 72, North Boone 53

Girls basketball

Hinckley-Big Rock 46, Indian Creek 45 (OT) — The Royals captured the championship of their own Class 1A regional. It is the seventh straight season H-BR has won a regional.


Class 1A Plano Sectional — Ivan Lopez (138 pounds), Wes Brown (160) and Derrick Maisonet (220) captured sectional championships for the Reapers. Jake Wilson (106), Shaun Wollenweber (132) and Junior Nunez (285) all placed third in their weight classes.

Class 3A Moline Sectional — Oswego’s Max Larson won a sectional championship at 160 pounds. Teammate Andrew McFall placed third at 106 pounds. For Waubonsie Valley, Jimmy Davis (132 pounds) and Howard Beatty (138) finished second in their weight classes. Anthony Touchstone was third at 220 pounds for the Warriors. Oswego East’s Zach Prinz was second at 170 pounds.

Class 2A Rochelle Sectional — Tyler Wilkinson (160 pounds) and Bobby Schillinger (182) won sectional titles for Yorkville. Teammate Gunnar Hjorth was third at 152 pounds. Kaneland got titles from Dan Goress (145) and Zach Theis (285). Esai Ponce was third at 132 for the Knights. For Sandwich, Jesse Wood (120) and Jarrod Johnson (145) each placed fourth.

Class 1A Oregon Sectional — Aurora Central’s Eddie Gonzalez placed fourth at 285 pounds.

Women’s basketball

Morton 60, Waubonsee 56 — Ashley Wilk had 23 points and 17 rebounds for the Chiefs (9-17). Tesa Alderman added 14 points and Emily Magee scored 11 points.

Maranatha Baptist 81, Aurora 69 — Shay Jenkins scored 16 points for the Spartans (7-17, 4-12). Ciara Marlow tossed in 13 points.
