Girls Basketball

East Aurora 44, Walther Lutheran 42 — The Tomcats scored a win at the Willowbrook tournament, getting 28 points and 18 rebounds from Tyshee Towner. Brandi McAlister (10 points, five rebounds) and Desiree Rhodes (two points, 16 rebounds, five blocks) also contributed for East (1-1).

Aurora Central 48, Plano 46 (OT) — Senior captains Lisa Rodriguez and Alex DeCraene led the Chargers (3-1) with 17 points each while sophomore posts Natalie Droeske and Alex Horton held outstanding Plano post Clarissa Martinez to six points at the Somonauk tournament.

Temira Ellis had a game-high 20 points, and Tachae Miles chipped in nine points for Plano (2-2).

Metea Valley 57, Oswego East 37 — Lori Obendorf scored 21 points and nabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Mustangs (2-0) at the Benet-Naperville Central tourney.

Somonauk 51, Sandwich 28 — Emily Clark scored 16 points and Ashlee Kawall added 12 to lead the host Bobcats at the Somonauk tourney.

IMSA tournament — Indian Creek defeated Plainfield South 58-46, Timothy Christian downed IMSA 59-28 and Yorkville defeated Aurora Christian 44-35. Lindsey Schlichting scored 11 points for the Foxes (2-0).

Women’s Basketball

Bluffton 54, Aurora 46 — Bethany Dorrington scored 13 points for the Spartans (0-1).

Lions Club Basketball Coaches Night Nov. 29

Seven Aurora-area prep and college basketball coaches will preview their teams’ season prospects on Nov. 29.

The Aurora Noon Lions Club’s eighth annual Basketball Coaches’ Night and fund-raiser will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Luigi’s Pizza and Fun Center, 732 Prairie St. in Aurora.

The public is invited. The event includes a social hour from 6:30 to 7 p.m., all-you-can-eat pasta and pizza dinner at 7 p.m., and the coaches’ panel at 7:45 p.m.

A raffle and door prizes are included. Proceeds will benefit Lions’ vision and hearing-impaired programs.

Coaches scheduled to speak are Gordie Kerkman, West Aurora; Wendell Jeffries, East Aurora; Nate Drye, Aurora Central Catholic; Pat McNamara, Aurora Christian; Bob Vozza, Metea Valley; Dave Heiss, Waubonsee Community College; and James Lancaster, Aurora University.
