10 area players
named All-State

Ten senior players from The Beacon-News circulation area have been named to one of eight Illinois Football Coaches Association All-State Teams that were released on Friday.

IHSA Class 3A finalist Aurora Christian placed wide receiver Chad Beebe and defensive back Brandon Mayes on the Class 3A team, which also included offensive and defensive lineman Izzy Rosa of Aurora Central.

Interstate Eight Conference standouts Trent Bowers (defensive lineman) of Plano and Seth McDonald (running back/linebacker) of Sandwich were named to the 4A team.

The 5A squad included Kaneland offensive lineman Zach Theis.

In 7A, Oswego running back Mikeel Stewart and Batavia wide receiver Zach Strittmatter were selected.

The 8A team includes Waubonsie Valley standouts Troy Fumagalli (tight end) and Austin Guido (running back).

Girls basketball

Kaneland 47, Regina 38 — Emma Bradford totaled 13 points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists for the Knights (1-0), who forced 18 turnovers in the win.

Rock Island 57, Yorkville 49 — Paige Beach and Mackenzie Bollinger scored 12 points each for the Foxes (2-1), who fell in the championship game of the Hoop Happenings Tournament.

Geneva 52, Rosary 34 — Morgan Seberger paced the Vikings with 14 points. Michaela Loebel added 13 points.

Metea Valley 53, Providence 38 — Lori Obendorf totaled 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs (3-0), who jumped out to a 30-8 lead by halftime.

Aurora Central 45, St. Edward 27 — Lisa Rodriguez had 16 points for the Chargers (4-1).

Aurora Christian 45, Reed-Custer 30 — Alyssa Andersen scored 23 points as the Eagles captured third place at the Hoop Happenings Tournament.

Minooka 39, Waubonsie Valley 21

basketball

Aurora 76, Pitt-Greensburg 71 — Clara Marlow poured in 36 points on 10-for-21 shooting to lead the Spartans (1-1) to their first victory of the season. Bethany Dorrington added 10 points and seven rebounds.
