West Aurora senior Lauren Carlini has been named a First Team High School All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
As a result, she has been invited to play in the Dec. 14 Under Armour All-American Game in Louisville, Ky., an all-star game held in conjunction with the NCAA Division I finals.
Carlini, who signed her national letter of intent Wednesday to attend the University of Wisconsin on a volleyball scholarship, is the only player from Illinois to be selected to the First Team.
Earlier this fall, the standout setter was named the top senior recruit in the country by a national volleyball website.
Playing setter and right side for coach Kari Nicholson, Carlini helped lead the West Aurora volleyball team to its second straight DuPage Valley Conference title and a regional title before falling to eventual IHSA Class 4A state champ Benet Academy in the sectional semifinals. The Blackhawks finished with a 32-6 record, best in school history.
Carlini also plays club ball for Rick and Cheryl Butler’s Sports Performance program, which operates out of the Great Lakes Center on the far east side of Aurora.
