Girls basketball
Serena 38, Sandwich 31 — Kaylyn Wedra had nine points for the Indians (0-3).
Westminster Christian 31, Hinckley-Big Rock 25 — Bridgette Edmeier led the Royals (1-2) with nine points.
Newark 47, Aurora Central 28 — Alex DeCraene led the Chargers (2-1) with eight points.

Girls volleyball
Led by co-league MVP Rebecca Nauman, Yorkville had three players named to the Northern Illinois Big 12 East All-Conference team. Kaneland had two players chosen.
Nauman and Sycamore’s Ratasha Garbes shared the MVP honors.
Senior Julia Craig and freshman Jordan Albarran were also unanimous selections for the league champ Foxes.
Kaneland had two unanimous all-league selections in senior Lauren Banbury and sophomore Ellie Dunn.
Thorson signs
with Campbell
Elgin Community College pitcher Bobby Thorson signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play at Division I Campbell University next fall.
Thorson, of Sugar Grove, is a right-handed pitcher/third baseman from Class 3A state champion Kaneland. He’s currently a freshman at ECC.
Among Thorson’s accomplishments at ECC were being named 2012 Region IV Division II North Central District All-Region First Team, 2012 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Baseball Most Valuable Player and 2012 Illinois Skyway Collegiate All-Conference First Team.
