Girls basketball

Yorkville 43, Plainfield South 27 — Lindsey Schlichting scored 11 points to lead the Foxes.

Plano 42, Serena 38 — Clarisa Martinez had 13 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks for the Reapers (2-0). Tachae Miles and Temira Ellis added 10 points each.

Aurora Central 43, Hinckley-Big Rock 35 — Alex DeCraene hit five three-pointers and poured in 23 points for the Chargers (2-0). Alex Horton tossed in nine points.

Wheaton Academy 41, Somonauk 37 — Emily Clark totaled 12 points and seven steals for the Bobcats (0-2).

Aurora Christian 50, Indian Creek 43 — Alyssa Andersen had 25 points, five rebounds and five steals for the Eagles. Alex Hultine added nine points. Ariel Russell scored 11 for the Timberwolves.

Westminster Christian 46, Sandwich 40 — Kaylyn Wedra had 16 points for the Indians (0-2).

Batavia 49, Glenbard South 43 — Hannah Frazier led the Bulldogs with 13 points. Bethany Orman added 10 points.

Boys bowling

Minooka 3,129, Oswego East 2,755 — Alec Madsen’s 640 series led the Wolves.


A story in the Monday edition of The Beacon-News stated Aurora Central was the first girls basketball team from the city of Aurora to qualify for the state tournament. Aurora Central is the first girls team to make it to state since the four-class system was introduced. West Aurora (1990, 2000), East Aurora (1982, 1984) and Waubonsie Valley (1999) advanced to the state tournament under previous formats.
