Letters to the Editor

Sandy Hook conspiracy theories

Upon reading Richard Coleman’s letter to the editor Feb. 5 about the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, I did research, because I remembered reading an interview with Connecticut police wherein they stated Lanza used the Bushmaster. I found dozens of sites reporting only handguns were used, but all these sites were opinion sites, not legitimate news outlets.

Some of them even claimed that mainstream TV news admitted only handguns were used; however, I could not find one of these claims on those mainstream outlets’ websites. Richard Coleman is either the victim or proponent of a conspiracy by gun advocates.

The YouTube video claiming Sandy Hook was a hoax by the government is another example of one of these conspiracies. Lt. J. Paul Vance, Connecticut State Police, authorized spokesman for the ongoing Sandy Hook investigation, has verified that all 26 victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School were murdered by the Bushmaster XM-15 E2S rifle.

I am not against the 2nd Amendment; I am for responsible gun ownership. What I am against are the propagation of conspiracies and not doing proper investigation before putting forth fabrication as fact in Viewpoint. The facts are supplied by the people involved in the investigation, like Lt. Vance, not by the opinions of NRA-worshipping websites.

McQuillan for Geneva mayor

In the last 12 years, a lot has changed about how people view their elected officials. A level of trust has been lost and many feel they no longer have a voice. In April of 2001, there were 5,475 votes cast in the race for mayor of Geneva. In 2009, only 2,571 voted in the same race. Only 14.5 percent of registered voters across all Geneva precincts voted in the 2011 consolidated election.

My professional experience in sales, marketing, program development and people management, will allow me to pursue a focused effort to move Geneva forward. My plan is called Building Geneva’s Future Together.

I believe the next mayor of Geneva needs to focus on the following: fiscal responsibility, accessibility and economic development.

Please review my detailed plan about the above topics at www.bobmcquillan.com. Your thoughts, ideas and comments are encouraged and welcome. We all have a stake in Geneva and need to build Geneva’s future together.
