Tony Michelassi, DuPage County’s youngest board member, has formally announced plans to seek re-election
The Aurora resident, one of three Democrats on the 18-member DuPage County Board, launched his campaign for a second term at a fundraising event Sunday at the Eola Community Center.
Elected in 2008, Michelassi, 26, heads the county’s Development Commitee and lists among the highlights of his tenure so far his work on recently adopted zoning code adjustments, support of Navistar’s relocation to Lisle, vote in favor of federally funded infrastructure upgrades and opposition to new and increased taxes.
“I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish so far, and look forward to competing for another shot at serving the community that raised me,” Michelassi said in a news release.
Republicans Jim Healy and John Zediker of Naperville, who represent District 5 along with Michelassi, also hope to win new terms next year. Because the county has new electoral boundaries as the result of mandated redistricting done after each decennial census, all 18 DuPage County Board seats will be on the ballot in November of 2012.
In addition to the incumbents, former Naperville City Councilman Dick Furstenau, Aurora business owner Tonia Jane Khouri and small business owner and Realtor Paul Santucci of Aurora also plan to seek the GOP nominations for DuPage County Board District 5 in the March primary.
The filing period for nominating petitions is Nov. 28-Dec. 5.
