A 28-year-old Somonauk man has been charged with reckless homicide in an October crash that killed a motorcycle passenger.
Matthew Lambert was arrested in his home in the 13000 block of Suydam Road last Friday, and charged with 10 counts of felony aggravated drunken driving and three counts of reckless homicide, the Kendall County sheriff’s office said Tuesday.
At 8:25 p.m. Oct. 10, police were called to a car-vs.-motorcycle crash near Walker and Grove roads, the sheriff’s office said. According to police, Lambert was driving south on Grove Road when he turned left onto Walker without yielding to a motorcycle. The motorcycle’s driver, Gregory Kawohl, 45, of Plainfield, and his passenger, Colleen Hunkler, 46, of Wilmington, were both taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. Hunkler later died at Copley, as a result of the injuries suffered in the crash.
Lambert was not injured in the crash, but officials took blood and urine samples. An analysis by the state police lab showed that Lambert’s blood-alcohol level was higher than .08, the legal limit to drive, and he had marijuana in his system, police said.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on Dec. 20, police said.
Lambert would need to post $10,000 bond to be released from jail.
