Kitchen fire damages Geneva restaurant

Updated: December 6, 2013 6:17AM

Geneva firefighters responded to a fire at a South Third Street restaurant around 8:30 p.m. Sunday after employees reported smoke in the kitchen.

A fire had apparently broken out inside a wall at Gratto Italian Tapas, 207 S. Third St.

Firefighters said that the restaurant will likely be closed for several days while the damage is fixed. About $5,000 in damages occurred as a result of the fire. Heat from the cooking area had apparently transferred through the wall, and ignited wooden studs, firefighters said.

No one was injured, and all restaurant patrons and employees were evacuated safely. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour.
