Birds stolen from Batavia Petland

Two sun conure parrots valued at $1,400 were reported stolen this week from Petland in the 400 block of North Randall Road in Batavia, police said. The theft occurred sometime between noon and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday

“It wasn’t a particularly busy day but we did have a lot going on,” a Petland employee said. “The conure parrots are gorgeous birds but they can be very talkative, so I don’t know how they got away with it.”

The Petland Batavia store was not one of the area stores previously hit in a recent spree of thefts of exotic birds.

Aurora

Bonnie Wright, 42, of the 1300 block of South Glen Circle, Aurora, was charged with felony possession of a stolen registration sticker on Thursday, the Kane County state’s attorney’s office said.

Christopher Hawkins, 41, of the 1600 block of Burton Street, Aurora, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and disregarding a stop sign at 7:19 p.m. Thursday near Spruce Street and Oak Avenue, Aurora police said.

Shiva Mathur was charged with failure to yield at a stop sign on Thursday near Gabrielle Lane and Commons Drive, after police said he struck another vehicle and caused an accident with injuries.

Carol Leader was charged with failure to yield at a crosswalk at 6:50 p.m. Thursday near Creek and Farnsworth avenues after she drove her vehicle through a crosswalk and hit a bicyclist, Aurora police said.

Batavia

A gold diamond wedding ring valued at $7,500 was reported stolen at 12:56 p.m. Monday from a residence in the 1300 block of Burnham Lane, Batavia police said.

Leslie H. Hustedt, 33, of 5N000 Paddock Lane, St. Charles, was charged with drunken driving, speeding, disobeying a traffic light and making an improper turn Sunday in the 300 block of McKee Street, police said.

DeKalb County

Bernard Rutherford, 45, of the 500 block of Liberty Street, Yorkville, was charged with felony theft and felony burglary at 9:30 p.m. Monday on Route 30 in Hinckley, DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies said. Deputies said an investigation into burglaries that took place at a trucking company identified Rutherford as the offender.

Geneva

A 2005 CAT Skid Steer worth $25,000 was stolen from a construction site in the 2200 block of Innovation Drive, Geneva police said. The equipment had red and white decals bearing a plumbing company’s name.
