Aurora discount store suffers 35th break-in

Sometime between 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday, someone broke into a business in the 900 block of North Lake Street, Aurora police said.
The manager of the discount store told police that this was at least the 35th time the business had been burglarized.
According to police, the burglar broke two windows of the business, took several items and spray painted the back of the store. The store manager was not yet sure which items were taken. The total damage to the store were $2,450, police said.
José Velazquez, 42, 0-99 block of LaSalle Street, Aurora, was sentenced to 10 years in prison this week for a 2010 burglary at an Aurora restaurant. Velazquez had pleaded guilty to breaking into a restaurant on the 700 block of Hill Avenue. A patrol officer caught Velazquez holding the cash register outside the business, Kane County prosecutors said. Velazquez was eligible for enhanced sentencing because of his criminal history, which includes convictions for a 1994 child abduction, 1997 burglary, 1998 armed robbery and a 2007 burglary, prosecutors said.
Hector Olvera, 42, 1800 block of Lilac Lane, Aurora, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor domestic battery at 3:40 a.m. Monday at his home, police said.
Christopher Browning, 32, 3100 block of Venetian Way, Montgomery, was charged with felony criminal damage to property and misdemeanors disorderly conduct and reckless driving at 8:26 a.m. Tuesday near North Orchard Road and Interstate 88, police said.
Brian Evans, 27, a homeless Aurora man, was charged with felony residential burglary at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Melrose Avenue, police said.
Jose Villafuerte, 27, 500 block of Clark Street, Aurora, was charged with drunken driving, driving under the influence of drugs and suspended license at 2:39 a.m. Wednesday in the 0-99 block of South Anderson Street, police said.
One person was injured in a two-car crash in the heavy fog at 7:58 a.m. Wednesday near Chicago and East Sandwich roads, police said. Cager Collins, 62, of Cook Court, Somonauk, was taken to Valley West Community Hospital, but a condition report was not available. Collins was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said. According to police, Collins was driving east on Chicago Road, but he did not see a vehicle in front of him waiting to turn.
Mark Strandberg, 54, 1000 block of Garfield Avenue, Aurora, was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital after a two-car crash at 9:06 a.m. Wednesday near Perry and Pritchard roads, the sheriff’s office said. No condition report was available. The other drivers were not injured or ticketed, police said.
