WHEATON — A 40-year-old Aurora woman was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison for allowing her boyfriend to sexually abuse a young female relative in her care.
Christina Sykora, whose address was listed as Crestwood Court in Aurora, pleaded guilty Thursday to permitting the sexual abuse of a child, a felony, the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office said.
Prosecutors said Sykora offered the girl, who was younger than 10, to her boyfriend for sex in her stead, and then watched while the abuse took place.
The boyfriend, Sabino Martinez, was sentenced to 18 years in prison in August after pleading guilty to predatory criminal sexual abuse of a child.
Predatory criminal sexual abuse of a child is applied when the victim is under the age of 13.
The abuse of the child in Sykora’s care took place from early 2003 through December 2006, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
Both Sykora and Martinez must register as sex offenders for life.
State’s Attorney Bob Berlin called the case “one of the most disturbing cases to come through my office in recent times.”
Sykora will be required to serve 50 percent of her prison sentence before being eligible for parole.
