Get active with a senior bowling league, attend a garage sale, enjoy an outdoor concert, and reserve your spot at a tea. There is always something fun for seniors to do in the Fox Valley.
Join
Are you looking for an activity that will get you out of the house and introduce you to new friends? If so, consider joining a new senior bowling league sponsored by the Fox Valley Park District and Senior Services Associates.
The league is open to all seniors. You do not need to be a member of either organization to join.
“This league is going to be geared especially to seniors,” said Paul Heinkel, activity director for Senior Services Associates.
“We will have mini bowling lanes and two pound balls. It will be just like regular bowling, but more accessible to seniors. Even people in wheel chairs will be able to participate.”
The league kicks off from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 16 and Aug. 30 at Luigi’s Pizza and Fun Center, 732 Prairie St., Aurora.
Singles and groups of seniors are encouraged to join. The cost is $8 per visit, which includes two games of bowling and lunch.
“Sometimes we will have pizza, pop, and salad, and sometimes we will have things like hot dogs,” Heinkel said.
Why should seniors join the new league?
“It is simply a lot of fun,” he said. “You can make new friends, be active, and at the same time not worry that the bowling ball is too heavy or the lanes are too long. The activity is perfect for seniors looking for socialization and physical activity.”
