Car hits utility pole in Aurora, knocks down power lines

Someone may have been injured in an crash near Galena Boulevard and Hankes Road around 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

Travis Exline was headed west on Galena when the steering wheel of his Chevy Suburban began to shake and he lost power steering, Aurora police said. His vehicle struck a utility pole head on, causing the pole to break and fall, which put tension on other lines.

One of those lines fell onto the hood of a 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by Mary Rybicki, damaging her hood and windshield, as she was turning onto Galena.

Police said Exline’s vehicle was totalled. He said that his vehicle had been in an accident earlier in the day with no apparent damage, police said. No tickets were issued, police said.

Aurora

There may have been injuries in a two-car crash at 10:30 a.m. Saturday near Farnsworth Avenue and Corporate Boulevard, police said. Emmanuel Diaz was charged with failure to yield, police said. Brian Marshall was charged with no insurance, police said. Aurora police refused to release either drivers’s age or address, not say whether anyone was injured.

No tickets were issued when a man lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into a parked vehicle in the 1200 block of Savannah Drive on Sunday morning. According to police reports, Dung Truong had been holding a cup of hot coffee that spilled while he was driving, causing him to lose control of his 2012 Honda Civic and drift across the street, striking a parked and unoccupied vehicle.

Rosemarie Sanchez was cited for driving without insurance and failure to reduce speed after a crash that may have involved injuries at 6:52 a.m. Saturday. According to police, Sanchez hit a utility pole and hitting a tree. No further information provided.

Gabriel Guajardo, 24, of the 1200 block of Superior Street, was charged with felony residential burglary around 8 p.m. Friday, according to police.

Jamell Collier, 20, 1300 block of Cottonwood Drive, was arrested and charged with felony residential burglary and misdemeanors property damage and theft around 1 p.m. Friday, police said.

Eleazar Gonzalez, 45, 600 block of Spring Street, was charged with drunken driving, failure to reduce speed and improper lane usage in the 300 block of South Union Street around 2 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Janice Cisneros, 55, 1100 block of Newcastle Lane, was charged with drunken driving and driving without proper headlights around 9:30 p.m. Friday night, police said.

Keyeldrick Woods, 19, 2200 block of Bradford Lane, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis in the 400 block of Spruce Street, around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

DeKalb County

Maria Gentile, 40, 1100 block of Comiskey Avenue, North Aurora, was charged with improper lane usage, driving in the wrong lane and drunken driving after her vehicle drove off the roadway, through a fence, and into a corn field near the intersection of Route 64 and Lovell Road around 10:14 p.m. Friday, the sheriff’s office said. Gentile was found unresponsive and was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, police said.

Oswego

Inge Swiatek, 46, 300 block of Persimmon, was charged with drunken driving, improper lane use and disobeying a traffic signal near Wolf Road and Stonehill Drive at 2 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Daniel Barnias, 50, 400 block of South Ohio Street, Aurora, was charged with driving under the influence and driving while license revoked around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Route 34, police said.
