A 59-year-old Plano man was killed in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday in Kendall County.
Sheriff’s deputies said the crash occurred at about 4:40 p.m. on Fox River Drive north of River Road, near Plano.
Stephen Cockriel, of the 17100 block of Miller Road, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kendall County coroner’s office at 5:30 p.m.
Deputies said Cockriel was driving north on Fox River Drive when an oncoming pickup truck driven by Bryan James, 21, of the 300 block of Illini Drive, Yorkville, swerved across the centerline and collided head-on with Cockriel’s 1993 Saturn.
Cockriel’s car ran off the roadway and struck a guardrail. A car that had been following Cockriel then was hit by both of the other vehicles, deputies said.
James was listed in good condition at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora Wednesday afternoon. The driver of the third vehicle, James Brewer, 32, of the 500 block of West Madison Court, Yorkville, and his passengers, Ashley Kellner, 26, and a 1-year-old girl, all of the same address, were treated at the scene by Little Rock Fox Fire District paramedics.
James was charged with improper lane use and no insurance, deputies said.
Illinois State Police are assisting the Kendall sheriff with the investigation.
