AURORA — An Aurora Township man with dementia who went missing from his home early Thursday morning was found safe several hours later in Oswego.

The Kane County sheriff’s office said Jesus Zapeda, 84, was found at about 10 a.m. Thursday near Route 31 and Washington Street in downtown Oswego, about seven miles from his home.

He was unharmed and told police that he wanted to walk to Mexico, police said.

Family members earlier alerted police after Zapeda went missing from their home in the 700 block of Calhoun Street in Aurora Township early Thursday morning.

Zapeda was last seen at about 3 a.m., police said, wearing a black jacket, a gray Nike hoodie, black pants and a sombrero.
