Eleven men have been charged with having roles in a drug ring that delivered heroin from Chicago’s West Side to buyers in DuPage County.
Miguel Fernandez, 23, was arrested Tuesday after a two-month drug conspiracy investigation by the DuPage County Sheriff’s offices, U.S. Homeland Security agents and police from West Chicago and Woodridge.
Authorities saw Fernandez buy heroin on Chicago’s West Side and deliver it to “numerous” west suburban residents, who would either use it or resell it, a release from the sheriff’s office said.
He was caught reselling the drug to a juvenile on at least one occasion, and selling heroin within 1,000 feet of a school two other times, the release said.
Fernandez, of the 200 block of East Pomeroy Avenue in West Chicago, was charged with 10 felony drug conspiracy and delivery charges, the release said.
Arrested with him was Ivan Espinal, 20, of the 1000 block of Blakley Street in West Chicago, also charged with drug conspiracy and delivery of a controlled substance.
Both were ordered held on $10,000 bonds, according to sheriff’s office records.
Their capture led to six other arrests on various felony drug-related conspiracy or delivery charges, including:
— Fernando Lopez, 20, of the 200 block of Larsdotter Lane in Geneva;
— Miguel Ramirez, 24, of the 30 West 000 block of Oakwood Court in Warrenville;
— Pablo Ramirez, 19, also of the Warrenville address;
— Jesus Guerrero, 20, of the 800 block of Parkside Avenue in West Chicago;
— Pierre Atkinson, 25, of the 4900 of West Polk in Chicago; and
— Billy Turnage, 27 of the 5000 block of Paulina in Chicago.
Later heroin investigations in the case resulted in the arrests of three other west suburban men for possession of controlled substances: Manuel Gonzalez, 20, of the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue in West Chicago; Jonathan Guerrero, 20, of the 1600 block of Brookdale Road in Naperville; and Oscar Vivaldo-Avila, 24, of the 29 West 500 block of Winchester Ct. in Warrenville.
