YORKVILLE — Ken Toftoy has resigned as chairman of the Kendall County Republican Central Committee.
Toftoy, who is Kendall County coroner, sent a letter of resignation to Central Committee Secretary Matthew Prochaska this week. The resignation is effective Friday.
In the letter, Toftoy said he “it is now time for someone else to step up and lead the party here in Kendall County.”
“I have spent more than 30 years working with precinct committeemen towards the Republican cause here in Kendall County,” Toftoy wrote. “I have carried a lot of water to the elephant!”
Joe Gillespie, the committee’s vice chairman, will take over as interim chairman until the committee can arrange a county Republican Convention and elect a permanent chairman.
Toftoy took over as chairman in September 2009, when then-chairman Keith Wheeler resigned to run for the state legislature. Toftoy was elected in March 2010 to his own term as chairman.
