AURORA — Two Aurora men have been charged with felony aggravated battery of a police officer and a third with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon following a police chase Tuesday night near the 600 block of North Broadway.
Julio Cesar Chairez Jr., 19, of the 900 block of Front Street, was charged with four felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in the incident, police said.
Ted Alberto Hildago, 21, of the 400 block of Union Street, and Jorge Alberto Yanez, 18, of the 400 block of Grove Street, were charged with felony aggravated battery of a police officer and felony resisting arrest. Hildago also was charged with drunken driving and possession of marijuana.
According to police, an officer saw a vehicle pull out of a gas station parking lot on Broadway without its headlights on at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. When police tried to pull the SUV over, the driver sped off before slamming on the brakes and striking a stop sign at Broadway and Pierce Street, police said.
The vehicle continued over the curb onto a grassy area before stopping at a gated entrance to a business in the 600 block of Broadway.
Police said Chairez jumped out of the SUV and attempted to flee on foot. An officer then arrested Chairez at gunpoint, police said.
Hildago, who was driving the SUV, refused to obey an officer’s commands and attempted to reach under his seat, police said. Hildago and Yanez, who also was in the car, kicked, punched and refused to obey officers, police said. Officers used a Taser to subdue Hildago, police said.
Two officers were injured in the arrest, according to police.
A fourth man in the SUV, Caleb Aaron Frazier, 20, of the 800 block of Almond Drive, Aurora, was arrested without incident. Police said Frazier was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.
After the four were taken into custody, officers went back to the area where Chairez fled and was seen throwing something. Police recovered a .25-caliber handgun in a black Crown Royal bag.
