YORKVILLE — A Yorkville man has been charged with having alcohol at the Kendall County Jail, the Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
In a case going back to last November, Thomas Binion, 24, of the 9300 block of Route 34 in Yorkville, has been charged with unlawful possession of contraband in a penal institution, a Class 4 felony.
The sheriff’s office said the jail staff performed an inspection of jail cells and found a bottle of what appeared to be homemade alcohol in Binion’s cell on Nov. 27, 2012. Police did not say why Binion was being held in the jail at that time.
The liquid was sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The Crime Lab confirmed it was alcohol, and Binion then was charged, police said.
He remains in custody at the jail in Yorkville, police said.
