N. Aurora paving way for Randall resurfacing

NORTH AURORA — Residents who depend on Randall Road to reach work, home and stores have a year to map out alternate routes.
Village officials are paving the way to resurface Randall Road between Mooseheart Road and Oak Street in spring 2014.
The Village Board this week approved a resolution to spend $650,000 in motor fuel tax receipts from the Illinois Department of Transportation to help fund the $1.15 million project. The remaining $500,000 will come from a federal Surface Transportation Program grant, said Finance Director Bill Hannah.
Last month trustees unanimously voted to hire engineering firm Rempe-Sharp and Associates of Geneva to run the project at a cost of about $40,000.
Officials expect to award a construction contract in January 2014, with construction to follow, as soon as weather permits, said Rempe-Sharpe partner James Bibby.
“This will allow the optimal time period, December 2013 through January 2014, to generate historical early season bid cycle savings,” Bibby said.
When construction starts, workers will grind off the top three inches of pavement and patch any deeper cracks, then repave and restripe the road. They also will make any needed sidewalk, curb and gutter repairs, Bibby said.
The work is expected to take about two months, according to Rempe-Sharpe’s engineering schedule.
