NORTH AURORA — A West Chicago man was in critical condition from injuries received in an accident Sunday, while an Aurora man was charged with aggravated drunken driving in connection with the incident.
Victor M. Alvarez, 35, of the 1400 block of Golden Oaks Parkway, Aurora, was charged with aggravated drunken driving and aggravated reckless driving, both Class 4 felonies, after North Aurora Police officers found his car shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday off to the side of Route 25, about 100 feet north of Ridge Road.
Police said Alvarez was driving the Silver Nissan Murano north on Route 25 when it ran off the road and struck a utility pole, causing heavy passenger side damage.
A passenger in Alvarez’s car, a 39-year-old West Chicago man, was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
Route 25 was closed roughly between 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday from Ridge to Banbury Road while crash investigators processed the scene. The North Aurora Police Department was assisted by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
Alvarez appeared at a bond hearing at the Aurora Branch Court Monday morning. His bond was set at $100,000. He currently is in custody at the Kane County Jail, police said. The crash remains under investigation.
