With about 100 friends attending, a Batavia single mother with three children celebrated their new home in Aurora over the weekend — the 50th home rehabbed by Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity over the past two decades.
Renee Fortuny and her children — Kayla Walker, 8, Charlie Walker, 7, and Maya Walker, 5 — received the keys to a 1,250-square-foot frame ranch home at 355 Michigan Ave. in Aurora. The home has three bedrooms and 1-1/2 baths.
The celebration culminated about five months of work by Fortuny and more than 100 volunteers. Fortuny, who completed 350 hours of labor on the rehab project, will pay a no-interest, 20-year mortgage.
