New judge named for Kane

Geneva attorney Christine Downs has been appointed an associate judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit.

Downs has been an attorney for past 16 years. She started her career as an assistant state’s attorney in Kane County in December 1997, working in both the criminal and civil courts until January 2010.

She then became an associate with the law offices of Collison and O’Connor in Chicago while assigned to Kane County as a special assistant state’s attorney specializing in worker compensation cases. She will continue in that position until she is sworn in as associate judge, court officials said Thursday.

Downs is a graduate of Naperville North High School and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois. She received her law degree from Loyola University in May 1997.

Downs is a member of the Kane County Bar Association as well as the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois Trial Bar. She has also served on the CASA Kane County Chairman’s Advisory Panel, the Holy Cross Church Finance Council, and has been a YMCA Youth in Government Program Advisor.

Downs will take the bench on Feb. 4, court officials said.
