YORKVILLE — A man apparently shot himself in the head and died in the Kendall County Courthouse parking lot Friday afternoon, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department said.
Sheriff’s deputies said someone called 911 at 1:46 p.m. about a man with a gun at the courthouse.
When deputies arrived, they found a man on the ground who appeared to have suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Video surveillance at the courthouse showed the man standing with a shotgun just outside his car, putting the shotgun to his head and discharging a single shot.
The man was by himself at the time, deputies said.
The man did not appear to have any business at the courthouse, according to Deputy Craig French.
“We have video surveillance that did not show him going into the courthouse,” French said. “He had no criminal or civil record and no evidence of proceedings at the courthouse today.”
Investigators were still at the scene late Friday afternoon, but the courthouse remained open and business was continuing as usual, French said.
The man’s identity is not being released until family is notified.
