Multiple injuries as car slides on black ice

Lana A. Schwedel, 23, of Glen Ellyn, Tara K. Needham, 27, of Earlville, and Luis A. Oquendo, 30, of Earlville, and an unidentified 2-year-old girl were all taken to Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich after a single-car accident Wednesday morning. According to DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies, Schwedel was driving on Chicago Road near Governor Beveridge Road, south of Hinckley, when she lost control on a patch of black ice and went into a ditch, striking a fence and several trees. The crash occurred at about 9:19 a.m. Wednesday, police said. No tickets were issued. The driver and all passengers were treated and released.
Kristine Mudra, 46, of the 600 block of Churchill Road, Oswego, was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center after a single-car accident at 7:25 a.m. Monday at Route 34 and Timber Ridge Lane, police said. According to police, Mudra’s vehicle left the roadway and overturned in a field. A condition report was not available.
