SUGAR GROVE — An Oswego man was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges that he followed a woman from her workplace and chased her down in a remote part of Sugar Grove.
Jeffrey D. Bernard, 51, of the 100 block of St. George Lane, Oswego, is charged with attempted criminal sexual abuse and battery, according to Sugar Grove police.
Bernard was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Marshals, who served the Sugar Grove warrant.
The department issued a warrant for Bernard’s arrest on Dec. 18 for the incident, which allegedly occurred last Aug. 13.
The victim, a woman in her early 20s, told police that Bernard followed her from her place of employment in Montgomery to a remote part of Sugar Grove, near Gordon Road and Route 47. Police said he honked the horn and flashed the lights in his car to stop her vehicle.
After stopping the woman, Bernard made contact with her that was of a sexual nature, police said.
The woman was able to get away when another vehicle approached, police said.
Bernard was being held in the Kane County Jail on $10,000 bond.
