Aurora man faces weapons charges

A 20-year-old Aurora man has been charged with three Class X and two other felonies.

Quinn D. Meeks, of the 400 block of Blackhawk Street, Aurora, was charged Friday at his home with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon — one a Class X felony which carries mandatory jail time, and the other a Class 4 felony — unlawful use of a weapon and armed violence, also both Class 4 felonies.

He also was charged with the manufacture and delivery of marijuana, a Class 4 felony.

Aurora

Andres Soto, 24, of the 500 block of Spruce Street, Aurora, was charged Saturday with aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm, and aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon, both Class 3 felonies, after being arrested at his home, Aurora police said. Also charged at Soto’s home about the same time was Ricardo Chairez, 22, of the 11000 block of Lawndale Avenue, Alsip. Chairez faces charges of battery with intent to cause great bodily harm, a Class A misdemeanor, police said.

Salvador S. Baltierra, 35, of the 0-99 block of North West Street, Aurora, was charged Saturday morning with drunken driving at Jackson and Benton streets, Aurora police said. He also was charged with driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

Ryan L. Collins, 43, of the 100 block of South Smith Street, Aurora, was charged Friday with violating the sex offender registration act, a felony, in the 1200 block of East Indian Trail Road, Aurora police said.

Charles K. Jackson, 47, of the 600 block of South River Street, Aurora, was charged Saturday with felony retail theft, a Class 4 felony, at Locust Street and Downer Place, Aurora police said.

A display phone valued at about $500 was stolen sometime Saturday from a store in the 4400 block of East New York Street, Aurora police said.

Patio furniture valued at about $500 was stolen sometime between Dec. 26 and Saturday from a house near Galena Boulevard and Constitution Drive, Aurora police said.

About 200 feet of copper piping, valued at about $500, was stolen last week from a house under construction in the 0-99 block of North Anderson Street, Aurora police said.

Joyce Watgen, age not given, of the 2000 block of Garden Avenue, Aurora, was taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora Friday after she was injured in a two-vehicle accident at Sullivan and Deerpath roads, Aurora police said. Watgen had been driving south on Deerpath Road when a car driven by Luis A. Gonzalez, age not given, of the 2100 block of Schrader Street, North Aurora, pulled out in front of her, police said. Gonzalez was ticketed for failure to yield. A condition report was not available for Watgen.

Kendall County

Someone used fireworks to blow up a portable toilet at Silver Springs State Park, in the 14000 block of Fox Road, Yorkville, Sunday evening, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department said. State employees at the park estimated the loss to be about $600.

Dawn A. Taylor, 47, of the 400 block of Monroe Street, Oswego, was charged early Saturday morning with drunken driving on West Anchor Drive at Shore Court, Oswego Township, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department said. She also was charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol and a headlight violation.
