Burglars skip stealing TV, take kids’ banks

Updated: January 28, 2013 3:43PM

A family returned home early Christmas morning to find that their house had been burglarized, Aurora police said.

Sometime between 4 p.m. Monday and 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, someone ransacked the home in the 300 block of West New York Street, police said. The suspects forced their way in through a door.

Once inside, the burglars did not take a flat-screen TV, DVD player or video game system. They did grab a camcorder, two kids’ banks filled with change (one shaped like a baby bottle and one shaped like a toy ATM), cash and a Dora the Explorer wallet, police said. Total loss was $640, police said.

Aurora

One person was injured in a two-car crash at 6:03 p.m. Monday near North View and New York streets, police said. Elida Ortiz, of the 600 block of North Highland Avenue, Aurora, was taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center, but a condition report was not available. No tickets were issued due to conflicting statements, police said.

Montgomery

Copper piping and a water meter were stolen from a vacant home in the 2700 block of Jenna Circle last week, police said. Police said the home is owned by a mortgage company.
