A 40-year-old woman who was hit by a Metra commuter train at the Route 59 station was still hospitalized late Friday evening, Naperville police said.

Naperville police said the train hit the woman at 1:43 p.m. Thursday. The woman was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville. Police said woman was in critical condition Thursday; a condition report for Friday was not available. Police have not released the woman’s name.

A nurse who was on the train got off to give the victim medical assistance until paramedics arrived, police said. She was hit on the north-side tracks by a westbound train on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line. Police said she intentionally stepped in front of the train.

The woman suffered internal injuries, police said. She was trapped under the first and second cars on the seven-car train, he said.
