Man killed by train in DeKalb County

A Waterman resident was killed when he was hit by a train while walking along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in DeKalb County Wednesday afternoon, the DeKalb sheriff’s office said.
According to police, the railroad called the sheriff’s office at around 3:33 p.m. to report that the train had hit a pedestrian near University and Johnson roads, south of Shabbona.
The pedestrian, Nigel Ortega, 35, of Waterman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are still investigating.
