It will be hard to ever forget the birthdays of Ryder and Rayne Cook, thanks to a little careful planning by Rush-Copley Medical Center doctors.

The twin siblings were born on Wednesday, 12/12/12, at 12:12 p.m., during a planned C-section.

Mom Raquel Salgado said she wasn’t even thinking about the special date as she anticipated the birth of her second and third children.

“I didn’t even think about it,” she said from the hospital, shortly after giving birth. “But, it’s a good birthday.”

Raquel said the doctors had been planning the surprise for her for weeks. Originally, she was due to have the twins on Tuesday. When they called and asked her if she’d like to reschedule, she figured, “why not?”

Then, the babies’ original birth time of 1:45 p.m. was also rescheduled.

“I thought they were joking,” she said. “But, they weren’t.”

Raquel was ordered to check in at 10 a.m., and by 12:12 p.m., the first of her twins had arrived. Ryder came first, at 12:12 p.m. on the dot, weighing 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Rayne came a minute later, at 12:13 p.m., weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces.

“They’re both happy and healthy,” she said.
