Thursday saw a pair of firsts for the Kane County court system, as three judges took their places on the bench in a swearing-in ceremony at the branch court in Geneva.
Rene Cruz of Aurora becomes the first Hispanic judge in Kane’s history, while John Dalton becomes the first openly gay judge for the 16th Circuit.
Also sworn in Thursday was Judge John Barsanti, a former Kane County state’s attorney.
