Heavenly inspired gorditas now at Montgomery eatery

MONTGOMERY — New life has been injected into an historic building in downtown Montgomery, courtesy of a minister interested in feeding her flock.
Pastor Eluvinda Loera serves meals to a couple hundred parishioners at Ministerios Adonai in Aurora each week after services. Loera said she was looking to get involved in a business that would bring income to help her church.
On Wednesday, Loera and representatives from the village of Montgomery had the ribbon cutting on the Stop n Go, a new gordita, juice, coffee and pastry bar at 214 N. River St. Loera’s specialty gordita is made with a shell similar to a flour pita or tortilla and is stuffed with meats. Eggs and sausage are used for the breakfast treat.
Loera and her husband, Tony Loera, have six children, all who are active in the community and will assist at the Stop n Go from time to time.
A feature of the historic River Street building is the large bar, rumored as a speakeasy during Prohibition. The bar will remain, but juices, coffee and pastries will be served instead of alcohol. Hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
