Candidates for school boards and other local government offices will get a little relief this Christmas season.
Filing is scheduled to begin Dec. 17 for election petitions of most school and municipal candidates around the state, and was set to end at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve for the April 2013 elections.
Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation this week allowing local election offices to close on Christmas Eve, changing the deadline for submitting petitions to 5 p.m. on Dec. 26.
Filing already took place in November for local governments which expected to hold primary elections in February, including for the Aurora City Council and North Aurora Village Board.
