Property owners will not see a property tax increase on the city portion of their tax bill under a proposed $6.7 million levy approved at committee this week.
Batavia Finance Director Peggy Colby said if there is no change in a property owner’s assessed value, the owner of a $300,000 home will see their taxes drop about $4. The same owner would have paid about $632 in city taxes last year.
“The tax levy collection is slightly lower than the previous year due to a bond refunding for the Donovan Bridge earlier this year,” Colby said.
Colby said as a result, future levies will be lower by $20,000 per year. Colby said the portion of a typical tax bill in Batavia is about 8 percent of a property owner’s total bill. The council will vote on the levy in December.
