Santa and Mrs. Claus to make Montgomery appearance

People will be able to catch a glimpse of Santa and Mrs. Claus at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at 5 p.m. Sunday in Montgomery. Several youth groups will sing Christmas Carols and free cookies and hot chocolate will be available. Children’s groups participating include youth from Lakewood Creek Elementary, Community Christian Church, Nicholson Elementary, and St. Peter’s School, Pack 316 from St. Luke’s and Park 347 from McDole Elementary.
While waiting for the arrival of the guests of honor, children and their parents can visit the Festival of Trees that will be on display in Village Hall, 200 N. River St. This is the second year for the festival that is a contest between local groups and merchants to see who can decorate the most festive tree.
There is no cost to enter the competition but various organizations and business register at Village Hall, provide their own tree and decorations. Residents vote on the winning tree anytime they visit village hall between Dec. 2 to 20. The winner is announced and honored at the January Village Board meeting.

Residents of Montgomery can also nominate their home, homes of their neighbors or just a house they believe has a great display. Judges will be strolling through the village on the night of Dec. 12.
Nominations will be accepted through Dec. 10, and you can call the Village of Montgomery Public Works Department at 630-869-9241 or register on line at hamiltonbond.com/decorations/
The Montgomery Economic Development Commission and Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual event from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 It will feature “A taste of Montgomery,” with food from many village companies.
