Aurora Noon Lions present McCoy with first lifetime award

AURORA — Former Aurora Mayor Albert D. McCoy has been awarded the Aurora Noon Lions Club’s first Lion Lifetime Achievement award.
McCoy, 86, is a 49-year Lions Club member. He is a member of the Lions Century Club, served on the club’s board of directors for many years, and was active in club fundraisers.
Michele Needham, a present member of the Lions board, cited McCoy for “…service to the Aurora Noon Lions Club, the Community Foundation of the Fox Valley, the City of Aurora and the United States of America.”
McCoy, mayor of Aurora from 1965 to 1977, is a lifelong Aurora resident. He graduated from Marmion Academy in 1944 and attended Aurora University and the University of Montana.
During World War II, he served on the aircraft carrier USS Monterey in the South Pacific.
During his tenure as mayor, Aurora annexed more than 6,800 acres of land, which led the city to becoming the second largest city in Illinois.
McCoy is a past president of The Aurora Foundation (now the Community Foundation) and was a member of the board of directors for 27 years.
Also honored at the Lions 90th anniversary banquet at Orchard Valley Restaurant was Jeffrey Anderson of Aurora, a club member since 2007 and an leading fundraiser for the organization. He received the club’s annual Distinguished Service award.
Anderson owns Curbside Ltd. of Aurora, which distributes Eskimo Man ice cream.
