The Kane County Development Committee Wednesday approved an addition to the Mill Creek subdivision near Geneva that would bring 268 more residential units and 15,000 square feet of commercial space.
The development, called The Vistas of Mill Creek, has undergone several variations over recent months. It would be along Keslinger Road, near Richardson Electronics in Blackberry Township.
Representatives from Geneva-based developer ShoDeen agreed to not begin building the new development until there is an 80 percent build out in the center of the Mill Creek development. This means that there are 122 more residential units that the developer needs to build before it begins the new project.
The development is spread out over 25 acres.
“It’s a very low density development,” committee member Drew Frasz said. “There’s a significant ratio of green space.”
The committee also urged the developer to push for a trail connection to the La Fox train station, which is about a mile away. The Vistas of Mill Creek has been billed as a transit-oriented development, and the trail would make it easier for commuters to walk to the station, committee member Mike Donahue said.
“It doesn’t make a lot of sense to have to drive to the train station,” he said.
