Updated: November 23, 2012 1:36PM

NORTH AURORA — A few candidates have filed election petitions for the 2013 village council races in North Aurora.

Incumbent trustees Chris Faber and Mark Gaffino have filed; Allen Cavender has also filed for a trustee spot, officials said Tuesday. Incumbent Village President Dale Berman and incumbent Village Clerk Lori Murray have also filed for reelection.

The village president, village clerk and three village trustee spots are up for election.

The North Aurora Village Hall, 25 E. State St., will be closed Thursday and Friday. Petition filing period closes at 5 p.m. Monday.

Aurora 3rd Ward seat open

No new candidates filed for the Aurora mayoral or aldermanic seats Tuesday, said Aurora Election Commission Director Linda Fechner. About a dozen candidates have filed for the seven open aldermanic seats and mayoral spot so far.

Fechner said the Election Commission will start accepting petitions for the 3rd Ward aldermanic spot Wednesday . Those candidates must collect between 21 and 71 signatures on their petitions.

Alderman Stephanie Kifowit, who on Nov. 6 won election to the Illinois House, resigned from her 3rd Ward post Tuesday night, triggering an election for her seat.

Petition filing period closes at 5 p.m. Monday at the Aurora Election Commission, 323 W. Galena Blvd. The Election Commission will be closed on Thanksgiving, but Fechner said she will be available to answer questions via phone on Thursday.
