GENEVA — The Geneva School Board has called a special meeting for Tuesday to discuss the tentative contract with the teachers union.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Coultrap Building at 1113 Peyton St.
The board will go into closed executive session to discuss the proposed three-year pact with the Geneva Education Association. The board may take action after the session.
The teachers union formally approved the contract last Wednesday. More than two-thirds of the membership voted to accept the contract, union President Carol Young said.
Teachers were poised to strike last Monday, but the action was averted after union and School District negotiators reached a tentative settlement.
The GEA and the School Board began negotiating last February. Neither side has released details, aside from the fact that teachers agreed to accept a one-year salary freeze.
