As the cold weather settled in this week, a good Samaritan came forward for the statue of Aurora matriarch Marie Wilkinson outside of the Aurora Public Library’s downtown branch.
A blue, knitted shawl, a gift from an unknown patron, was placed around the shoulders of the statue in front of the library on Benton Street at Stolp Avenue.
The statue of Wilkinson seated on a bench was placed at the library in 2008, as a tribute to the longtime Aurora community and civil rights activist.
