Yorkville gets into the festive holiday spirit

YORKVILLE — Santa’s coming early this year for Yorkville’s Holiday Under the Stars celebration and fireworks show.

Churches, shops, restaurants and residents will come together to ring in the holiday season from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in the city’s downtown area, Route 47 and Hydraulic Street.

Among the highlights:

An all-weather skating rink will be set up at Riverfront Park.

Santa and the mayor will light the community tree at 5 p.m.

The Caring Hands Thrift shop will have live Nativity scene performances beginning at 5 p.m.

River City Roadsters, at 131 E. Hydraulic Street, will feature photos with Santa from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Early holiday shopping can be done at the Yorkville Chamber, where the Kris Kringle Market will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Closing the evening will be a fireworks spectacular at 9 p.m., sponsored by Boombah athletic uniforms.

There will be performances both Friday and Saturday at the River’s Edge Theatre. Thespians will present “This Wonderful Life” by PR Productions at 9:30 p.m. Friday. Doors open at 8:15 p.m. Tickets available online or at the door for $12.

On Saturday, PR Productions presents “A Bagful of Fables,” which starts at 10 a.m. Doors open at 9:15 a.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

“This Wonderful Life” will be presented again at 7 p.m. Saturday, with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door, or available online at

Yorkville’s 11th annual Chili Chase 5k Run/Walk is Sunday. Registration begins at 7 a.m., race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at Yorkville American Legion Post #489, 9054 E. Veterans Parkway. Enjoy a hot bowl of chili after the race. To to register, visit
