AURORA — Officers from the Aurora Police Department’s National Latino Peace Officers Association are sponsoring a “Tuition Knock Out” boxing tournament this weekend.
The event — scheduled for Sunday at the C Club, 2445 Church Road — will raise money for the association’s Aurora scholarship fund. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and matches will begin at 2 p.m.
The event is sanctioned by Jesse “The Law” Torres Boxing Club in partnership with NLPOA Aurora. There will be at least 15 bouts and clubs from around Illinois and neighboring states will be traveling to Aurora to participate.
Tickets for the “Tuition Knock Out” boxing event are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Tickets or donations can be made at ticketriver.com/event/4920-1st-annual-tuition-knock-out, or by calling Aurora Police Sgt. Alfredo Dean at 630-816-6522.
The NLPOA Aurora chapter also has boxing event T-shirts on sale for $13.
The Aurora NLPOA is the first local chapter in the state. One of the chapter’s goals is to recruit Latinos into the law enforcement profession.
