2 injured in West Chicago blaze

Two occupants were injured in a three-story apartment building fire in West Chicago on Sunday morning.
Firefighters responded shortly after 10 a.m. to the Timber Lake Apartments complex at 1212 Kings Circle — just off Route 59 and a short distance south of Route 64 — where a blaze in a third-floor apartment forced the evacuation of tenants.
Firefighters said the fire spread quickly into the roof and attic space, and extended rapidly over the tops of fire companies operating in the interior of the building. Operations were then transitioned to an “exterior defensive attack.”
Nearly 50 percent of the roof and parts of the third floor collapsed. No firefighters were injured while battling the 24-unit apartment building fire. The nature of the two tenants’ injuries was not given.
About 120 firefighters assisted on the scene, including departments from Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles, Elgin and Naperville, Winfield, Wheaton, Carol Stream, Bartlett Bloomingdale, Glen Ellyn, Warrenville and Hanover Park.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 12:30 p.m. The cause of the fire was under investigation. The American Red Cross assisted some of the residents in relocating to other apartments within the complex and local hotels.
